Assange must be silenced!

Julian Assange, the smarty-pants ultra-liberal who has been thumbing his nose at the U.S. on his WikiLeaks website by making public hundreds of thousands of confidential government communications, now is threatening that if he is arrested by anyone or his site is shut down, he has set up a system whereby a huge trove of even more damaging information on the U.S. will be sprung on the world. He calls it a “poison-pen” release.

Enough! The Obama administration has been, in effect, pleading with Assange “pretty please” not to make anything more public because it would put our armed forces and foreign nationals who have cooperated with us in jeopardy.  When they want to sound REALLY tough, they have threatened legal action, as if he was a violator of commercial trademarks.

In a world where things operated as they should, instead of as they way they do, Barack Obama would be closeted with the head of the CIA — or would have already been closeted with him — and would be telling him, “I want Julian Assange dead, and I want his website shut down permanently. I don’t care how you do it, as long as you make sure it can’t be traced to us.” And he would be making certain that the CIA chief obeyed those orders, as soon as it is humanly possible.

And Obama would tell his “legal advisors” who would of course be appalled by the very idea, to go to hell, because this is war.

Are you shocked and horrified that I’m suggesting Assange be assassinated? You shouldn’t be, because it happens in espionage all the time. That’s one of the reasons they have organizations such as the CIA — or the Israeli Mossad, which is world class at such operations. Maybe we should just call the Mossad and put out a contract on Assange; they would eliminate him in short order. There is nothing like being surrounded by enemies as Israel has been for its entire history, to realize that sometimes you have to be utterly, unapologetically ruthless.

The Obama administration’s reaction — or non-reaction — to the WikiLeaks affair is more or less typical of its reaction to so many challenges: Pretend it doesn’t exist; then, acknowledge it but pooh-pooh its importance; then hint at “legal action” (how did we ever manage before this whole country got so “lawyered-up” that we can hardly move?).  And, oh, yes, as a last resort, His Eminence the Anointed One takes off for overseas on an important “state visit,” effectively getting the heck out of Dodge until the crisis blows over.

The message the U.S. should be sending to people like Julian Assange is, “Don’t mess with the U.S., Buster, or you’ll be sorry — REAL sorry!” Instead, we seem to be wearing a permanent “Kick me!” sign.

Helluva way for a superpower to act — especially this one.
